This book is written as an introductory text for those who are interested in anthropological linguistics which is a discipline that has greatly expanded over the past decades. Being introductory in nature, it introduces theories, approaches, and methods which have been used from the past to the present. But as it is intended for graduate students, the critical aspects cannot be left unmentioned. At certain points, the readers will find that the author implicitly asserts questions and her critical analysis of certain theories and, at the same time, proposes an alternative. To make the content closer to home, one chapter is devoted to analyses of linguistic units in the Thai language, namely pronouns, classifiers, and kinship terms. As any other disciplines, anthropological linguistics never stops growing. More topics are being investigated. Methodologies are borrowed and adapted from other disciplines.
