SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION & ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

Second language acquisition (SLA) has since its inception been a source of knowledge and references for the teaching of a second or foreign language. This book titled, Second Language Acquisition and English Language Teaching, discusses key concepts of second language acquisition in relation to English language teaching (ELT). ELT in Thailand has been under a lot of criticism. All too often, the criticism is based on personal or popular beliefs about how English should be learned without proper consideration of SLA theories and hypotheses underlying L2 acquisition/learning processes. Although laypersons’ views might be valid concerning how an L2 should be taught and learned, relevant SLA theories and hypotheses that will be discussed in this book should allow for better and informed decisions about L2 acquisition/learning processes.
